Sneaker News Weekly Rewind: 1/21 – 1/27
The Authority In Sneaker News 28 Jan 2012, 3:00 am CET

Closing out the month of January is Sneaker News Weekly Rewind, so let’s cut to the chase and get caught up in all the biggest news stories of the week. In Air Jordan news, Sneaker News showed you a sample pair of the upcoming Air Jordan VII ‘Charcoal’ while giving you some tips on how to claim the missing Air Jordan X hangtag from your recent Chicago X pick-up. A skilled artist going by the moniker A-BB dazzled the readers with his amazing Michael Jordan Series of artwork, capturing MJ and his kicks in some memorable scenes. LeBron James made some noise as we got a look at a Foamposite PE as well as a sample Mid version of the LeBron 8 ‘Flamingo’. The Kobe System seminars began, as Kobe took us through the first five levels of the Kobe System, while updates regarding the Zoom KD IV iD forced some curious, raised eyebrows. Sneaker News also showed you a quick peek at the upcoming Black History Month pack featuring a trio of Nike Bball signature models.
The first notable Quickstrike Dunk of 2012 from Nike SB came to light, as did news of an intriguing Air Jordan 1 x Nike SB collab. Nike Sportswear celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the Air Force 1 by introducing elephant print as a custom option for Nike iD. This Sunday’s Pro Bowl will feature some sick Nike representation, as we showed you the three footwear models included in the 2012 Pro Bowl Pack. Other sports with sneaker recognition are obviously the NBA and NCAA, which was headlined by Rip Hamilton’s White/Cement IVs. The celebrities had a quiet week, but Mark Wahlberg and his LeBrons made some noise towards the end, while Amare Stoudemire had to resign from his Foot Locker job in New York. Collab news included the vast previewing of the Jeremy Scott x adidas Originals collection for 2012, a sick partnership between PickYourShoes and Reebok, and the Fall 2012 Missoni x Converse capsule. Sneaker News Weekly Rewind will return in February, so close out the month the right way by keeping in tune with the authority in Sneaker News.

Air Jordan III ‘South Beach’ Customs
The Authority In Sneaker News 28 Jan 2012, 2:30 am CET

When the colorists of Nike Basketball came up with the ‘South Beach’ colorway, they knew they had an all-time classic on their hands. The bright aqua blue and hot pink will always be recognized for one of the more controversial moments in sports history, but maybe that dark cloud is what gives the ‘South Beach’ it’s edge, because since it was first revealed in the late Fall of 2010, the South Beach colorway took the world by storm as sneakerheads hit Nike iD and sneaker customizers with this inspired theme. Using the Air Jordan III ‘Black Cement’ as the base (an act of sacrilege by some accounts), Proof Culture effortlessly transformed one classic to another by re-painting the upper in that familiar blue while adding the hot pink accents on the upper detailing as well as on the inner lining and insole. Your thoughts? Check out the extra shot below and let us know what you think.

Missoni x Converse – 2012 Preview
The Authority In Sneaker News 28 Jan 2012, 1:30 am CET

Missoni might very well be the world’s best known manufacturer of luxury knitwear, and they’ve managed to extend their reach in recent years will well-placed collaborative releases from a variety of partners. The one that carries the most weight around these parts is the Italian fashion label’s ongoing tag team with Converse that’s produced some of the more unique looks in recent memory. The Missoni x Converse Chuck Taylor All Star will return later this year in a fairly dark construction reminiscent of the Auckland Racer we previewed not too long ago, and the absence of the Pro Leathers we showed you at the same time suggests there could be even more in store for 2012. This
February 2012 release of the Jordan Spiz’ike has induced a
copious amount of discussion anytime it’s featured here on Sneaker

Nike Air Force 1 iD ‘Afroyeezy’ by Afro Kix
The Authority In Sneaker News 27 Jan 2012, 11:00 pm CET

Who says you gotta go and drop $800 just for a dope pair of custom created Nike Air Force 1 Lows? Last week we saw Wolfstein push the limits of the Nike iD options to come up with a Red Wing inspired pair. This time around the inspiration is decidedly more sneaker-centric, with Afro Kix aiming to imitate the palette of the Nike Air Yeezy in the net colorway. The results hit pretty close to home, with the buttery suede uppers pulling off the net look, along with the pink lining on the insides for an extra bit of that flashy appeal. Follow us after the jump for a full look at the Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘Afroyeezy’ from Nike iD and let us know if you think that Yeezy taught him well. via SW

2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Hypebeast 27 Jan 2012, 9:56 pm CET
Autoblog recently had the opportunity to travel to the Bondurant Road Course just south of Phoenix, Arizona to put the 2012 Camaro ZL1 through the ringer. The raw data they uncovered no doubt makes the offering from Chevy one of the baddest muscle cars on the block. The 6.2-liter supercharged V8, which shares its basic spec sheet with the Cadillac CTS-V and Chevy Corvette ZR1, puts out 580 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 556 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 rpm. The official 0-60 time is 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile is dispatched in 12 seconds flat. Top speed is listed as 184 miles per hour, thanks in part to an aero package that includes a new front fascia, a carbon fiber hood with functional air extractor vents and an undertray with NACA ducts for cooling. Finally, the EPA estimates you’ll get 14 miles per gallon city and 19 mpg highway driving a ZL1, which means it’s also subject to the federal government’s Gas Guzzler tax.

Nike Dunk High – Black – Action Red
The Authority In Sneaker News 27 Jan 2012, 9:30 pm CET

As is the case with most of our beloved classic designs, the Nike Dunk High is impeccable in its original style. The classic two-tone upper we came to know on the ‘Original 7′ college-inspired releases is one of those formulae that simply cannot miss, and Nike Sportswear has relied on this BTTYS-ish build for each of its spring 2012 releases. This new pair in Action Red and black is the Bulls answer to the University Blue UNC look, together a reminder that the Dunk and Air Jordan 1 share the same vintage and traction pattern. Click through to get a closer look at these, let us know if this stark approach is better than the comparatively calm white/V.Maize edition we most recently previewed, and expect these at select NSW retailers soon. via The Toe Box

Nike Air Max NM – Black – University Gold – White | Arriving @ Retailers
The Authority In Sneaker News 1 Jan 1970, 1:00 am CET

Hideo Nomo has a special place in baseball history, being one of the first Japanese players to make the permanent move to the US and thus opening the door for a wave of subsequent MLB transplants. Of course he also has a special place in sneaker history, having one of the only baseball centric signature shoes to really make a splash outside of the Griffey line. So when Nike Sportswear decided to crank things up with the Griffey releases, it was only fair that the Nike Air Max NM got a little love as well. And that in turn has become quite a lot a of love, with OG colorways and retro versions alike. The latest is the black and white pair here, with the jewled center swoosh coming in university gold. Follow as after the jump for the in depth look at this Nike Air Max NM, which will be showing up soon at NSW accounts like Mr. R Sports. via ITSB
